Would you recommend the
course for someone who
is already a good
reader?
You might be wondering if
the course will benefit good readers or if it is merely designed for poor
readers. Actually, in years past, the good readers often benefit even more
than the poor readers.
Over 90% of attendees at least double their effective reading rate. This
includes the good readers and the poor readers alike. Think about what
that means! If almost everyone in the class doubles, and if good readers
are starting at a much higher rate--do you see the implications?!
A slow reader who starts the course reading 150 words per minute would double by
reaching 300. A strong reader who starts at 250 words per minute would be
surpassing 500.
Don't just strengthen your weaknesses. Strengthen your strengths!
Pursue excellence.
This course is not a remedial course. Poor readers can become good, and
good readers can become great.
On occasion even poor readers can become great (as the following story from the
instructor illustrates):
When one of the recent students first arrived, he was not a happy camper.
This high school junior came with his whole family, and his mom immediately
mentioned to me that her son was mad at her for signing him up to take the
course. I said to him, "I have a prediction. By Thursday night,
you'll be blessing your mother's name! For decades to come, you will be so
glad she arranged for you to take this course."
He came in reading 110 words per minute (perhaps the slowest in the room) with
just 60% comprehension. He finished the course as the third fastest reader
I have ever taught! He reached 1333 words per minute with 90%
comprehension! On Thursday night I wrote him a note, asking, "Are you glad
you came?" He wrote back, "Yes!!"
Afterward, his parents asked me, "How fast do you think he'll be able to read
his textbooks?" I said, "I don't know, but he'll be faster than anyone
else."
Can you imagine what college would have been like for him if he arrived still
reading 110 words per minute at 60% comprehension? If he had somehow been
able to survive college academically, it would have been a grind for him.
Now, instead of arriving at college next year as one of the slowest readers, he
may well be the fastest in the entire university.

How old must a person be
to take this course?
The "Double My Reading Speed" Course is designed for adults, college students,
and high school students. We accept students as young as 13 if they are
mature and teachable. However, the money-back guarantee only applies to
students who are 14 or older.

Ideally, when
should someone take this
course?
This question reminds me of an old proverb: When is the best time to plant
a fruit tree? The best time is ten years ago, but if you haven't done it
yet, the second best time is today.
We have adults, college students, and high school students in virtually every
class. Many comment, "I wish I had taken this earlier!" In a perfect
world, it would be nice to take it before taking the SAT. I took a reading
skills course in high school. Before taking it, I never had enough time to
complete the reading sections of the SAT. After the course, my verbal SAT
score went up by 130 points.
My daughter is about to graduate from Biola University in the Los Angeles area.
She has attended there for five years tuition-free, saving me about $100,000.
She doubled her reading speed and then won a National Merit Scholarship through
her PSAT and SAT scores. Perhaps she would have been a National Merit
Scholar even if she had not taken the reading skills course. I have no way
of knowing. But doubling her reading speed with equal or greater
comprehension certainly didn't hurt!

How do you measure a
person's improvement?
At the beginning of the
first class, we test each person's reading speed and comprehension. Their
skills are tested eight times during the course, so students can track their
improvement.
We are not interested in gaining speed if it means losing comprehension.
What good is it to read fast if you don't understand what you're reading?
The most important measurement is the number of words per minute they actually
comprehend:
Words per minute x % comprehension = WPMC (words per
minute comprehended)
At the end of the course, students will compute their own "improvement factor".
If their WPMC has not increased by at least 50% during the course, we will
refund their money. We don't want you to pay for the course unless it is
of major benefit to you.
The fact is: Most students do not improve by 50%; most improve by well over
100%. This is a risk-free opportunity: you get significant results
or you get your money back.

What if a student has
dyslexia?
I have taught nine students with dyslexia. Six of them more than doubled
their reading rate with equal or greater comprehension. That success rate
(66.67%) is not as good as the general population (over 90%), but it's still
good. Since the upside is potentially huge, and since we give your money
back if the dyslexic student does not benefit in a major way, why not try it
out?
Two summers ago a
dyslexic student took
the course as she was
about to enter her
freshman year in
college. She was a
very serious
student--but painfully
slow as a reader.
On the first day of the
course, we were waiting
for her to finish at the
end of every drill.
By the end of the 2nd
day, we were no longer
waiting. By the
end of the course, she
was not up to where the
other students were, but
she was about 100 words
faster (per minute) than
the average college
student. I knew
she would be fine.
She is so tenacious, she
may have made it through
college anyway, but it
would have been very
difficult and laborious
for her to keep up.
Now she has the reading
skills she needs to do
well without spending
every waking moment
glued to her books.

How much does it cost?

If you plan on sending more than one from your family, please see our section
below on available discounts.

Are
other discounts available?
Yes! We have three
more discount
opportunities:
1) $100 Referral
Discount -- If a
family sends one or
more family members
as a result of your
referral, you will
receive a $100
referral discount.
You may do this as
many times as you
wish. You can even
go into the black.
The current record for referral discounts is eleven, giving that family $1100
(simply by informing others of a wonderful opportunity). The mom from this
family attended the course with her three teenagers (all of whom more than
doubled their effective reading rate--at no charge).
2) $100 Family Discount--If anyone else from your family decides to
enroll, your family will receive a $100 discount for each additional person.
Only the first person pays the normal price.
3) $100 Sports Discount -- If a student is able to beat the instructor
in ping-pong, racquetball, or soccer, that student will receive a $100 discount.
: )
Challenge matches will take place during the week of the course. At the
discretion of the student, a soccer challenge can take the form of a one-on-one
game or a "no hands" juggling competition.
Note: The instructor has already
been beaten in a soccer challenge but is undefeated in ping-pong and
racquetball. Be the first to take him down.
|
Family Discounts will be applied at the time of registration. You
can continue earning Referral Discounts and Sports Discounts until
the time of the course. These discounts will be rebated to you in
the form of a check during the course. |

How does the guarantee
work?
The "Double My Reading Speed" course is extremely powerful. We expect
it to be a huge benefit to you. If it is not, we don't want you to pay for
it. If you do your part by attending every session, we will guarantee the
results:
If your reading rate does not increase by at least 50% during the course, we
will cheerfully refund all your money. (Note: you will probably not improve by
50%; you will probably improve by well over 100%).
This is a risk-free opportunity: you get significant results or you get your
money back! We measure your progress by
charting the number of words per minute you actually comprehend--your WPMC.
Words Per Minute
Comprehended = Words Per Minute
x Comprehension %
We'll measure your reading skills
on the first day, and you'll be able to see how much you are improving
throughout the course.

How much homework is
involved?
You will have homework on three nights, but the work is not difficult and it
should only take you about 20 - 30 minutes per night…a small price to pay for a
lifetime of benefit.
